Thermal modification is an innovative process that alters wood at the cellular level, improving its durability, dimensional stability and mechanical performance, without the use of chemical products. This process relies solely on heat and steam to modify the wood’s internal structure and composition.

During the process, the wood is exposed to high temperatures, can typically range between 320°F and 428°F, in a controlled low-oxygen environment. This results in a controlled pyrolysis process altering the chemical and physical properties of the wood.

By carefully controlling this modification, the changes in the composition of the wood significantly reduce its absorbency and increase its resistance to biological decaying agents, such as fungi and insects, making it considerably more resistant to deterioration. Additionally, its natural color becomes richer, more uniform and browner, enhancing its natural beauty.
